What Do Specials Look Like at FSMA?
At First State Montessori Academy (FSMA), we believe in providing a holistic educational experience. Our ‘specials’—Library, Art, Music, Physical Education, and STEM—are designed to complement our core curriculum, fostering a well-rounded development for our students. Let’s dive into what each of these specials offer.
In our library, students engage in storytime sessions, author studies, and how to navigate a library. Our library is a nurturing ground for developing a lifelong love for reading and learning.
In art, students explore various mediums—painting, sculpting, drawing—to express their creativity. They learn about different art styles, art history, and even explore the elements of art, bridging traditional and modern artistic expressions.
Music classes at FSMA are more than just learning instruments. Our focus is on developing a musical person. The curriculum encompasses vocal and ear training, understanding music theory, and exploring different music genres. We also integrate music with social-emotional learning, in projects where students explore their musical identities.
Physical Education at FSMA focuses on more than physical fitness. It includes physical literacy, cooperation, and understanding the importance of a healthy lifestyle. Emphasis is placed on teamwork, sportsmanship, and developing a positive attitude toward physical activity.
Our STEM program is designed to ignite curiosity and problem-solving skills. Students engage in hands-on projects including habitat simulation, sun distillation, and renewable energy sources. This program aims to build a strong foundation in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, preparing students for future academic pursuits.
At FSMA, our specials are not just classes; they are experiences that shape our students’ growth and development. By integrating these diverse subjects into our curriculum, we provide a unique learning environment that prepares students for a dynamic and ever-changing world.
