First State Montessori Academy (FSMA) is a charter school located in Wilmington, Delaware that opened its doors in fall of 2014 to children in Kindergarten through 6th grade. We will nurture, inspire, and educate a diverse student population through the Montessori teaching method.
Our goal is to attract, develop, and retain the best teachers in Delaware to be a part of our “Dream Team”. Our educators play an integral part of the growth and decision-making processes of the organization and help to form the community that defines First State Montessori Academy (FSMA). Our educators have the opportunity to be a part of a ground-breaking, innovative organization that positively changes the educational experience of hundreds of children and their families.

Full-Time Teachers
FSMA believes that every teacher is an integral part of our school. We recognize that each person must embody the spirit of the school and have a great depth of skills. Our goal is to attract, develop, and retain the best teachers in Delaware to be a part of our “Dream Team.: Our educators play an integral part of the growth and decision-making processes of the organization and help form the community that defines First State Montessori Academy. The educators at FSMA have the opportunity to be a part of an innovative organization that will positively change the educational experience of hundreds of children and their families.
Qualifications: Individuals wishing to become employed as a Full Time Teacher at FSMA should hold a valid Delaware teaching license and have completed an accredited Montessori certification program (or be willing to attend training during the summer). FSMA does offer partial payment support for classroom teachers.
Salary and benefits information: Salary based on years and advance degrees. Salary is competitive with surrounding districts. Pension and benefits included.
Part-Time Teachers

The educators at FSMA have the opportunity to be a part of an innovative organization that will positively change the educational experience of hundreds of children and their families.
All FSMA K – 6th grade classrooms have 2 teachers (1 Full-Time and 1 Part-Time)
Qualifications: Individuals wishing to become employed as a Part Time Teacher at FSMA should hold a valid Delaware teaching license and/or have completed an accredited Montessori certification program.
Salary and benefits information: Starting salary $36,000 (less than 30 hours/ week), pension included. Individuals who hold both state and Montessori certification may be eligible for health benefits.
Job Responsibilities: Part-Time Teachers work 5.5 hours every day (9:15 a.m. – 3:15 p.m.). They are present during instruction and take responsibility for certain content areas or grade levels, depending upon their background and expertise. They work with a co-teacher to plan and execute lessons as well as assess students and communicate with families.
Training: Montessori Training is available and partially funded for interested Part-Time Teachers
