First State Montessori Academy’s Lower School (Kindergarten through 3rd grade) is located at 1000 French Street in downtown Wilmington, Delaware. The former preschool and child development center was built in 1999, and no cost was spared in its construction. It is a highly secure building that is 3-stories high and has a large, open-air playground, so children can play in the fresh air every day. An art room, library, music room, computer lab, STEM space and a multi-purpose room are available for special instruction. Many of the rooms are beautifully painted with murals, and the classrooms have large windows looking out into the city. The building is wonderfully maintained. It is more than we could have hoped for in a building, and we enjoy spending our days inside learning, exploring, and growing!
It is conveniently placed in close proximity to other downtown charter schools and businesses and has everything a school and its students need to prosper and grow. Some of the local resources we visit often are the Wilmington Library, The Grande and Baby Grande, The World Café at the Queen, and many other local historic buildings. These resources provide us with opportunities for swimming, theatre experiences, musical performances, dance classes and much more. We are so appreciative of our wonderful neighbors who provide our children with incredibly enriching opportunities on a weekly basis!
