March Mammal Madness

  • Categories Blog
That’s right – the biggest event of the Middle School Season is back for another year of March Mammal Madness, courtesy of Arizona State University!! This amazing learning experience is just as exciting as the basketball season championships, and the school is abuzz with research, planning, and a little good-natured smack-talking, as we prepare for the competition to get under way!! Students have been hard at work investigating the list of combatants down to their very biology, while also considering their habitats, temper, predators, and specialized skills, all for the goal of choosing the best critter to win it all. The passion doesn’t stop with the science: students are also writing poetry in honor of their favored champions, honorable mentions, or even their prospective rivals in the competition.
The beauty of this silly, exciting, and competitive nation-wide event is that whether your bracket is busted on day one, or your champion survives to the very end, students are still invested in the myriad of learning opportunities, and as they say in the business “if you’re learning, you’re winning!” The first few match ups have already gotten underway, with fan-favorites like the Puma and Ginkgo tree going strong, and underdogs like the Quokka and Horseshoe Crab moving on to the next round, but there is a ton of excitement and action left to go before the Championship match up the first week in April!
Follow along with all the fun and excitement today!
